Transferring to an Institution

Today marked my 28 weeks & 5 days into my pregnancy. I'm into my 3rd trimester and it may be the most difficult lap that we (my husband & I) will be going through.... 


I received a call from my current gynecologist this morning that they had made an arrangement for me to transfer to an Institution. Now, you will be wondering, why transferring to an institution at 3rd trimester? 


To start of with, I did not have a smooth pregnancy. Because of this pregnancy I gave up my job and when I was 3 months pregnant, I was told that my baby has high possibilities of down syndrome. Being a first time parents ourselves, the news is just too much for us to bare. When I was about 4 months pregnant, we went for another test to make sure that the baby is fine, the amino-thesis test. This time, the report shown that the baby is perfectly alright! Man... when we got the news, joy started to fill us and finally I can enjoy my pregnancy. 


Well... things wasn't that smooth that we thought it will be, 5th month came and we are all set to go for a detailed scan. That start of another stressful time for us. The report shown that there are some abnormalities with the baby's heart. 


The summary of the ultrasound findings are as follow:
A. Cardiac views abnormal:

1. The aorta is narrow, compared with the pumonary artery
2. LV width: less than RV width
3. The cardiac axis is deviated to the centre

B. Single umbilical artery

In layman's terms, the left side of the heart is smaller than the right side of the heart. They are supposed to be of same size. 

The gynecologist advised us to see a Pediatric Cardiologist for second opinion.

The worst case scenario is that the baby may not survive before birth. Or the baby may need surgery after birth. As the heart may lead to many problems, the gynecologist cannot advise us on what is the actual scenario. 


We already had a few sessions with the pediatric cardiologist and his advise is for us is to move from a private hospital to government institution, reason being that if ever the baby needs a surgery, the cost is much lower and they have the full facilities. 


At this stage, for those who are reading this entry might think its sound so 'drama'. How I wish you can only find such stories in drama. And those who are concern about how me and my husband are coping, we are really fine. We can only trust God with all of our hearts, soul and mind, knowing that He is in control and He will make things beautiful in His time. 


If ever anyone of you want to help, just keep us in your prayers, pray that the baby's heart is normal and healthy.
